Before we begin, let me share a story about the difference a day without depression makes. For decades, my days started with my shattered heart, sadness, and hopelessness. At the same time, an inner critic on steroids would yell a litany of abusive comments at the top of his lungs, telling me I was a failure and everything I touched was doomed. Sound familiar?
Now, flash forward to my life without depression. I wake up well rested. I spend my days writing and reading. I kiss my wife and genuinely feel my love for her. I laugh freely at my little dog’s antics. On the way to work, I crank my favorite music and sing joyously.
At work, I am fully present in conversations. Friends call throughout the day for an empathetic ear, and it feels good to be there for them. I’m productive, focused on my tasks, and get everything done.
On the way home, I am eager to see my wife and goofball dog. We make dinner together, talking and laughing easily. We watch a bad movie and laugh at how terrible it is. Finally, we slip into bed, and I fall asleep with her head on my shoulder, without a single worry.
Are you ready for your new day? Then read on.
